Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of the surgical services department including staffing, scheduling, and performance improvement.
  • Ensure safe and effective nursing care is provided to all surgical patients in compliance with AORN and Nursing Standards of Care.
  • Lead and support the surgical team during procedures, maintaining safety and sterile technique, assisting anesthesia, and keeping families informed.
  • Supervise, mentor, and guide staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes and a positive working environment.
  • Manage surgical documentation, equipment, and supplies, ensuring preparedness and compliance at all times.
  • Function as a critical link between sterile and non-sterile fields during surgical procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of departmental and organizational policies and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Active RN license in the state of Texas.
  • Leadership experience in a rural healthcare setting preferred.
  • Strong understanding of clinical best practices, hospital protocols, and patient safety standards.
  • Proven ability to lead, inspire, and mentor diverse teams.

Director of Women’s Services

Directs Women’s Services activities and resources to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding.
Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.
Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.
Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.
Acts as resource for staff regarding obstetrical concerns and/or neonate concerns.

Minimum Education

This includes: policy and procedures are followed; safe staffing levels are maintained; supplies and equipment are at sufficient levels; and efficient patient throughput is managed. Engages in ongoing quality and performance improvement and assures employees complete required annual competencies. Maintains own professional growth and development in nursing leadership and required licensure. Communicates important information to the Director of the unit and the CNO as needed.

As such, the responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following activities: Staff development, evidence based clinical practice; personnel resource/productivity management; patient quality, safety and performance improvement; and regulatory compliance.
